DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
