Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders are present, and most often describes a co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis might help someone that might not have been able to be helped before, end drug or alcohol abuse because they can be properly diagnosed and treated. Their mental health disorder may have been misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or mistreated which may have triggered and resulted in their drug abuse issues. Establishing the reality that someone is in fact a dual diagnosis client not just helps establish an efficient treatment course for them, but will also help clients better determine what caused their substance abuse and the way to prevent it in the foreseeable future. Addressing dual diagnosis may be a more extensive process when compared to a typical drug rehab program, and folks with a dual diagnosis might be required to take part in a substantial aftercare program which might include appropriate medical support in addition to further rehab services. Being identified as having co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the person will have to be medicated through out their lives either, and in reality a lot of people with a dual diagnosis experience far better results when treated holistically and when alternative therapy is utilized.
