DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while under the influence down the road.
