DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
