DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
