DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities are either there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the future.
