DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be ordered to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
