DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab facilities are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use.
