Dual Diagnosis - Merrimack, New Hampshire

Dual diagnosis is a situation whereby two independent disorders exist, and most typically describes a co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis will help a person that may not have been able to be helped before, end drug abuse by being accurately diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder could have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or mistreated which may have triggered and resulted in their drug or alcohol use issues. Establishing the truth that someone is in fact a dual diagnosis client not just helps establish an effective course of treatment for them, but will also help clients better determine what triggered their substance abuse and ways to prevent it in the foreseeable future. Handling dual diagnosis can be a more extensive process than a typical drug rehab program, and folks with a dual diagnosis might need to take part in an extensive aftercare program which might include proper medical support in addition to continued rehabilitation services. Being diagnosed with co-occurring disorders doesn't imply that the person will need to be medicated for the rest of their lives either, and in reality many people with a dual diagnosis experience much better outcomes when treated holistically and when alternative therapy is utilized.
