DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment facilities are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
