DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
