DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehab centers are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
