DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
