DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
