DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
