DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
