DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future.
