DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
