DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
