Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance whereby two independent disorders are present, and most often denotes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis may help someone who might not have been capable of being helped previously, finish substance abuse by being correctly diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder may have been misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or mistreated which may have triggered and resulted in their substance abuse issues. Establishing the reality that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not just helps establish an effective treatment plan for them, but may also help clients better understand what triggered their drug use and the way to prevent it in the future. Handling dual diagnosis is often a more extensive process when compared to a typical drug rehab program, and individuals who have a dual diagnosis might be required to take part in an extensive aftercare program that might include appropriate medical support in addition to further rehabilitation services. Being clinically determined to have co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the person should be medicated for the remainder of their lives either, and in reality a lot of people who have a dual diagnosis experience much better results when treated holistically and when alternative treatment methods are utilized.
