DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehab centers are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
