DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
