DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
