Criminal justice clients are those who are in any sort of alcohol and drug rehab program due to a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This will happen for instance when someone is convicted of a DUI or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related offense that has led the court to believe that the individual has any kind of drug abuse issue. Not every person has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation program as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered by the judge it's strongly advised that the individual try everything they're able to to make the most of this chance. In many cases, other penalties and consequences can be entirely eliminated or lessened if the individual succeeds in treatment and finishes the drug and alcohol rehabilitation center that has been ordered for them. First time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been verified that criminal justice clients who do take part in rehab in place of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to prison time or receive other penalties. Eventually, it saves the court system both time and money when criminal justice clients obtain effective treatment.
