DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
