DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
