DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab centers are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
