DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
