DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug treatment due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
