DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while under the influence later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
