DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
