DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence down the road.
