DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
