DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
