DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
