DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while intoxicated down the road.
