DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future.
