DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while under the influence in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
