DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
