DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
