DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
