Outpatient treatment gives treatment clients the ability to sustain certain responsibilities and aspects of their way of life while getting involved in alcohol and drug treatment services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate level of treatment, and should not be mistaken for the degree of treatment offered in an inpatient or residential treatment setting that is significantly more extensive. Outpatient treatment could be suitable for someone who has a short history of drug abuse for example, but will almost certainly not be adequate for a person whose rehab needs exceed that which outpatient treatment is able to offer. Individuals involved in substance abuse often require an extreme environmental change, because most of the things that prompt their substance abuse are strictly environmental. For instance, if someone is being physically or psychologically abused and this is triggering their drug abuse, there is no way for any rehab efforts to achieve success if they return to such circumstances on a regular basis. In outpatient treatment, individuals can engage in group and individual therapy, in addition to family therapy services. In outpatient treatment, most programs will provide services 5 to 7 days a week on either a part-time or full-time schedule for 1 month or longer in some instances.
