DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use.
