DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
