DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab centers are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated in the future.
