DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
