DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
