DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehab centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
