DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
