DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehab centers are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
